Description
This serum is a water based light formula that combines two powerful ingredients at effective concentrations:
- Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) at 10% concentration: Niacinamide is a powerhouse ingredient with multiple proven benefits for the skin. At this 10% concentration, it’s particularly effective. It works to:
- Reduce the appearance of pore size: While it doesn’t physically shrink pores, it helps to regulate sebum production and improve skin elasticity around the pores, making them appear less noticeable.
- Regulate sebum production: It helps to balance the skin’s oil production, which can reduce shine and congestion, making it excellent for oily and acne-prone skin types.
- Improve skin barrier function: Niacinamide helps to strengthen the skin’s natural barrier, leading to better moisture retention and increased resilience against environmental stressors. This can reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and overall dryness.
- Reduce redness and blotchiness: It has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to calm redness and reduce the appearance of inflamed blemishes.
- Minimize the appearance of hyperpigmentation: While not its primary role, niacinamide can subtly help to inhibit the transfer of melanosomes (pigment packets) to skin cells, thus reducing the appearance of dark spots and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation over time.
- Provide antioxidant benefits: It helps protect the skin from free radical damage caused by environmental aggressors.
- Zinc PCA at 1% concentration: Zinc is a mineral known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. When combined with PCA (Pyrrolidone Carboxylic Acid), it’s particularly effective for:
- Targeting blemishes and congestion: It helps to reduce the activity of acne-causing bacteria and calm inflammation associated with breakouts.
- Further regulating sebum activity: Zinc works synergistically with niacinamide to control excess oil.
The formula is non-comedogenic (meaning it won’t clog pores), alcohol-free, silicone-free, and oil-free, making it suitable for a wide range of skin types, particularly those prone to oiliness, congestion, and breakouts. Its relatively high pH (5.00-6.50) is also well-tolerated by most skin types.
How to Use:
- Cleansing: Start with a clean face.
- Application Timing: Apply the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum morning and/or evening after cleansing and before heavier creams or oils. It’s best applied early in your routine due to its water-based nature.
- Amount: Dispense a few drops (2-3 are usually sufficient) onto your fingertips.
- Application: Gently massage or pat the serum evenly over your entire face. Avoid the immediate eye area if you are particularly sensitive, but it’s generally safe for use around the eyes.
- Layering:
- After Niacinamide: Follow with your hydrating serums (like Hyaluronic Acid), moisturizers, and then sunscreen in the morning.
- Avoid certain combinations: Do NOT use this serum in the same routine as products containing Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid and Ethylated Ascorbic Acid). High concentrations of niacinamide and pure Vitamin C used together can potentially cancel out each other’s benefits and form nicotinic acid, which can cause temporary redness and flushing. If you use a Vitamin C serum, use it in your morning routine and the Niacinamide serum in your evening routine, or apply them on alternate days. (Note: Derivatives of Vitamin C are generally fine to use with Niacinamide).
- Consistency: Use consistently for best results. Improvements in skin texture and shine control are often noticeable within a few weeks.
